Rediscovering the Original Jesus Movement

Today, the world is being shaken! The recent pandemic has proven to be an accelerator and a revealer of the beliefs that inform people's lives all over the world. There is a fast-moving trajectory of consequences that come from those beliefs-be they good, bad, or ugly. Because we are living in a world that is more global and interdependent than ever before, the stakes are only getting higher. As author Kent Hughes describes, "Like the Starship Enterprise when it kicks into warp speed, even going to warp ten, so that whole galaxies fly by like fence posts," an alternate reality is suddenly upon our doorstep.1 What does this alternate reality look like? Credentialed medical doctors are poisoning and mutilating physically healthy children; the Biblical definition of marriage has been stolen and redefined; men are told they can become women, and women are told they can become men; godless drag-queen shows are sanctioned by once-trusted local public schools, gravely impacting the most vulnerable among us. As Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz, "We're not in Kansas anymore." But the good news is that from chaos can come clarity about the purposes, plan, and power of God in the lives of Jesus Christ followers. And I'm convinced that the key to finding clarity in this critical hour is to rediscover the context of the ground floor of the Jesus revolution of first-century Jerusalem. And that's what this book is all about. It is a call to Christians everywhere that the way forward is the way back! Being refreshed by the Gospel context will provide for us clarity about not only God's will and His unstoppable plan, but His intended course and power for our lives. It will even course correct the mistakes in church history that have influenced a trajectory of the church that was never intended by Jesus.
